Acne is a common skin problem that suddenly appears on the skin in an unexpected time. Both men and women, young and old are susceptible to acne and it grows in the face, arms, chest, back and neck. Acne can cause skin irritation, itchiness and scarring. Although acne is not life-threatening but its presence on the skin can cause eye sores because it is unsightly when it grows on the facial skin. Medically termed as Acne Vulgaris, the development of acne starts right from the oil glands which are located underneath the dermis and they are directly connected to the skin pores where the hair follicles are found.
The liquid that comes from the oil glands will bring dead skin cells out from the hair follicles. When the follicles are blocked by dirt because of excess sebum it will become a favorite breeding ground for bacteria which can trigger the growth of acne. Acne and pimples come in different forms, colors and sizes. The growth of whitehead is hampered underneath the skin and instead of causing skin eruption it gives out small white pus from its center. Whiteheads are less visible compared to acne and they usually appear on the tip of the nose and cheeks.
Blackheads are unsightly because they are noticeable especially if you are fair-skinned because they are black and they can grow anywhere on the skin. Blackheads cannot be removed with scrubbing because dirt is not the main culprit. Usually blackheads are hereditary. Postules are irritating because they are itchy from the start of their growth until they produce pus from their red base. Papules are pinkish and they look tiny while the nobules are also noticeable because they are huge and well-rounded. Their presence can cause skin irritation and they become painful to tolerate when they have become matured. Cysts are hardened lumps that are painful and produce pus.
Most people can experience acne which likely occurs during pre-teens until their thirties. Acne can occur regardless of race, age and gender. But most probably they start to manifest during puberty and pregnant women.
